Year Round Closet Essentials
We’ve had some interesting weather this spring/early summer here at the beach. From unseasonably warm to rainy to cooler and windy. Hard to believe summer is in full swing! As I prep my closet for summer and start to transition winter and fall items out of my rotation , I came across a few things that I’ve declared are year round closet must haves. These are items that won’t take up too much space to keep them available to you all year. PLUS, you’ll be thanking yourself when you won’t have to spend time searching for these pieces.
Creative Ways to Wear Black
Think about the last time you put on an outfit with black. How many of the words listed above were why you chose black? I’m going to say a minimum of 5. Most likely as follows: Comfort, Confidence, Sophisticated, Protection, Power/Strong. Nothing wrong with that, you should feel all of those words (and them some) everytime you get dressed. Confidence is the best accessory for any outfit.
The Power of Color: Complementary Colors in Fashion
In working with my clients, I find they tend to fall into habit/routine when it comes to color choices. Most times it’s because it is easier to follow routine than put the energy into trying something new. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Once I start talking about color pairs and possibilities, my clients start to see there are more options than just add a neutral like black or white.
2019 Color of the Year: Living Coral
Coral colors sometimes favor orange tones more than pink tones and vice versa, while both pair amazingly with blue tones. A favorite for many of my clients, both with style and design, is coral and aqua. It makes sense since on a color wheel these colors are direct compliments (they are located across from one another on the color wheel). This lively shade of pink can be paired with a variety of blue tones and/or neutrals to create just the right amount of impact for tastes that are bold or subtle.
Pattern Mixing 101
Color. Pattern. Texture. These are the foundation for making our aesthetic world go round. Think about the last outfit you saw that really resonated with you. Whether you loved it or not, it created a reaction. Maybe, “Wow! I love that blue but would never have thought to pair it with orange.” Or, “I would never wear stripes with florals, but someone can pull this look off.”
